BackupSentinel reads the result emails your backup software already sends and keeps one status per job, per client. It is built for MSPs and IT teams who run many clients' backup jobs and need to know each morning which ones failed, which went quiet, and which need a look.

What it is, and is not.
- It reads reports
- Your backup software emails a result after every run. BackupSentinel receives that email at a per-client ingest address and parses it with a built-in or custom rule. There are no agents to install, and it never connects to your backup servers.
- It tracks every job per client
- Each job sits in one of six states: Healthy, Warning, Failed, Missing, Waiting or Paused. Every accepted report sets the next expected time from the job's cadence, and a check every 15 minutes marks a job Missing once its report is late by more than the grace period.
- It tells you once
- One open alert per job, sent to Email, Slack, Microsoft Teams or PagerDuty. A warning that becomes a failure escalates the same alert instead of opening another, and the next OK report closes it and sends a recovery notice.
- It is not a backup product
- BackupSentinel does not run, move or store your backups. It stores the report emails, the parsed results and the alert history for the retention window of your plan.
How it is built and where it runs.
- Hosting
- The web application runs on Vercel in Frankfurt (region fra1). The database is Supabase Postgres and outgoing alert and digest emails leave through Amazon SES, both in AWS eu-central-1, also Frankfurt. Incoming report emails are received at ingest.backupsentinel.io addresses and stored in the same database.
- Security
- Sign-in supports TOTP two-factor authentication, enforceable for the whole workspace. Roles (owner, admin, member, viewer) limit what each person can change, and an activity log records who did what. Device passwords are encrypted in the application with AES-256-GCM before they reach the database. Cloudflare Turnstile protects the sign-in forms; the providers encrypt data in transit and at rest.
- Billing and data
- Subscriptions are billed through Stripe, which handles card details. The trial lasts 14 days and needs no card; after it the workspace is suspended until a plan is chosen. An owner can export the workspace as JSON and delete it from the settings without asking us. Report emails, results and alerts are kept for the plan's retention window.
